Early Childhood

PreK 3, PreK 4, & Kindergarten

A nurturing program fostering independence, social awareness, and foundational skills from PK3 to Kindergarten, preparing children for success through purposeful engagement and growth.

ELAR (English Language Arts & Reading)

The Early Childhood Program fosters literacy development starting with an exploration of phonological awareness through songs, rhymes, and storytelling in the Moon Room (PreK 3), continuing with an introduction of symbolic language through sound discrimination, story sequencing, and handwriting practice in the Sun Room (PreK 4). By the Star Room (Kindergarten), students expand their literary exposure and practice sentence formation and spelling while engaging in diverse genres to inspire creativity and deepen comprehension.

Math, Science, & Humanities

In the Moon Room, students explore basic concepts like counting, recognizing numerals, understanding zero, shapes, colors, and positional words, as well as simple patterns and graphing. They are introduced to the scientific method by observing, predicting, experimenting, and caring for plants and class pets while learning about and practicing environmental responsibility. Students engage in daily routines, stories, and discussions to understand time and basic geography concepts like land, water, and maps.

In the Sun Room, students expand their math skills with counting to 20, basic addition and subtraction, 3D shapes, sorting, measurement, and graphing. Students also focus on weather patterns and seasonal changes, with a continued emphasis on conservation and recycling, and gain a deeper understanding of time, appreciation of diverse cultures, and learn about maps, continents, and local landscapes.

In the Star Room, students focus on number sense, skip counting, estimation, and deepening addition and subtraction skills, preparing them for more advanced math concepts as they move forward. They also delve into life sciences, physical sciences, and outer space, and explore animal habitats and plant life cycles. Students also expand their cultural knowledge by studying Native American traditions, explore global geography, and learn about changemakers such as Nobel Peace Prize winners and influential historical figures.

Social, Emotional, and Behavioral Growth

Our progressive approach to fostering social-emotional skills, independence, communication, and conflict resolution starts in the Moon Room, where students learn group participation, responsibility, and routine-following, while developing communication skills and conflict resolution practice with teacher support. They learn and practice self-regulation, impulse controls, and self-care.

There is an emphasis on independence, rule-following, and respectful choices in the Sun Room, where children collaborate and are encouraged to practice resolving conflicts independently and manage disappointment

In the Star Room, students continue to build self-regulation and attentiveness skills, continue to practice using words to resolve conflicts, and are taught mindfulness and emotional regulation to enhance focus, self-awareness, and empathy.
